You can address this mistake by characterization

Even if your characters sound different to you, they might sound the same way to the readers. It does not advance the plot, it does not show action, and it is completely irrelevant to the overall story. A very good example of this is greeting. Greeting is unnecessary, unless there is a reason why one character refuses to greet the other, or greets them enthusiastically.

I tell him what's wrong, and then he starts trying to comfort me.
